Currently my favorite song is One Direction’s “One Thing” – feel free to mock me for being into the British Boy Band craze. I can’t help it. Maybe it’s because I found the boy with the “one thing” that they’re singing about. Maybe it’s because it’s just so chipper. Maybe it’s just got a catchy tune. I’m surprised that I like it. Lots of things have been surprising me lately.
I’m surprised that I like teaching. I thought that the little kids would drive me up the walls. They don’t. In fact, for the most part, they’re rather cute.
I’m surprised that I don’t mind working at housekeeping in a local inn. It’s tiring, yes. I seem to end up breaking a nail or sweating. I like it anyway. I like the satisfaction of seeing the room all clean and bright when we are done.
I’m surprised that my fiancé always turns out to be even more wonderful than I thought he was before. And it’s not like I don’t think he is awesome, I do, but he just continually surprises me by being more awesome than I thought. It’s a nice problem to have.
I also [please don’t judge me] really like the Christina Perri song, “A Thousand Years” – which she wrote for the recent Twilight movie. I’m not so surprised that I like this one, it’s got a lovely, haunting melody, Perri has a beautiful voice, and the lyrics [again] seem to relate to my life. At the risk of descending into cheesyness I will let those of you who aren’t already familiar with the song look it up so you can see what I am talking about.
Well, writing this blog post has been a fun diversion from the numerous wedding planning ideas that are constantly swirling in my mind. I swear – if I look at one more bridesmaid’s dress, hear one more rendition of Pachelbel’s Canon in D, or wake up once more at 3am to count how many invitations to order I will explode. Or elope. [JK, Dad, JK!]
Well. Maybe I won’t explode. Planning things is my favorite. I always work best under pressure.
And, at the end of it, I get to marry my best friend. Which is pretty wonderful.
